Here is an exceptional Dedham Pottery vase hand thrown by Hugh Cornwall Robertson. It has a rich green and brown glaze with tan spots and pronounced drips over a gray green ground on the heavy squat form. It measures 5 3/4 inches tall and 7 1/2 inches in diameter at the widest. Marked with a hand incised mark, a conjoined HCR, and B.W. It is in great condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, or firing flaws. Hugh Robertson was fascinated by Asian ceramics and glazes, in particular the Chinese oxblood red. Often called experimental, this work is really Hugh's true art pottery. and the famous crackle dinnerware was made to keep the firm afloat. He died in 1908. A good piece of Dedham art pottery.
