Here's a terrific item for college football fans, collectors of World War II memorabilia and items related to the San Francisco Bay are...

This is an authentic game day program for the 20th annual East - West Shrine college football game played on January 1, 1945 at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. Packed with photos and information on the players and coaches of both squads as well as some terrific patriotic period advertising, this is a wonderful piece for any football fan.

The Shrine game was a capstone of the college football season and the 1945 edition featured future Rams star Bob Waterfield and Ohio State Heisman Trophy winner Les Horvath among others. Coaches included Andy Kerr of Colgate and Lt. Col. Bernie Bierman of Minnesota, recently retired from the Marines. Waterfield led the West All-Stars to a 13-7 victory as the West scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns.

World War II wouldn't end for another eight months and young men, including football stars, were still headed off to fight. Several of the All-Star Game participants had played with service teams in the fall while in training and Walter Heap, the Texas back and future pro, was home on leave after participating in eight Pacific landings on Coast Guard landing craft. The program includes updates on former Shrine Game players in the services including six who had been killed in action.

You'll find the 52-page program to be in very strong condition for its age, tightly bound with no missing pages. There are some age-related blemishes and signs of wear on the covers but nothing to complain about. See the attached photos.
