VICTORIAN CLEAR
OPALESCENT ART GLASS REVERSE SWIRL, COLLARED TOOTHPICK HOLDER
A
beautiful piece of early American made art glass in the form of a lovely little
toothpick holder. It is a quality piece
of blown glass and was made by an unknown maker; but with the likely
possibilities being Buckeye Glass or Model Flint. It is made in a clear opalescent swirled
stripe pattern in a mold where the ribs of the pattern in the glass run the
opposite direction of the opalescent stripes.
The piece in my photos is the actual item you will receive. This piece has been part of my personal
toothpick holder collection since 2012. Please
be sure to read the “Age and Condition” & “Approximate Dimensions” paragraphs below.
This
pattern is pictured in the book Glass
Toothpick Holders: Second Edition by Neila & Tom Bredehoft and Jo
& Bob Sanford on page 230.
If
you are not familiar with the NTHCS (National Toothpick Holder Collectors’
Society) it is a great organization and you can learn more about toothpick
holders and collecting them at their website.
I
do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of
my ability. Some of my photos may be
somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color. However, do not hesitate to contact me with
any questions, comments, or with requests for additional pictures. I will get back to you as soon as I am
able. I want your transaction with me to
be exactly the way I want mine to be when I am the buyer.

Age and Condition
This
piece dates to circa 1895.
It
is in good pre-owned condition. Please
look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of
this item. There is some roughness (multiple
tiny flea bites) to the top rim on both the outside and inside edges of the
rim. This is all minor to me and at
least some of it may by from the factory grinding process. I will also mention one small shallow flake and
some other minor roughness to the underside of the foot. Otherwise, there are no other chips, no other
flea bites, cracks, hairlines, or repairs to the glass – see my photos. Please keep in mind these photos may be blown
up at least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see will look 8-10 times larger
in the photos than it really is.
Please
note: if you see a dark spot in the photos, it is from my camera and is not a
mark on the piece. It will be either
just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the
right side of the photo.
Approximate Dimensions
About
2” (5.1 cm) across at the widest point and sits about 2.5” (6.4 cm) off the
table.
Approximate Weight
About
2.25 ounces (65 grams).
