Art Deco Wood & Sons / Woods Ware large bowl in the Japonica pattern
This is an extremely rare pattern dating from 1925, made by Wood & Sons (Woods Ware) and is designed by the artist & potter Frederick Rhead.
The colours are handpainted over a blue transfer and it is occasionally seen in a brown colourway.
In excelleng condition with no cracks or crazing. There is the most minuscule flake that's come off the rim. Chip would be the wrong word to describe it. I've shown it in the photos. It certainly doesn't detract from the lovliness of this item and is only noticed when the bowl is at eye level. I was looking very hard for imperfections!
bowl diameter at top 26cm
Diameter across base 10cm
Height / depth 9cm
Stamped HH&G (Hales, Hancock & Godwin Ltd) and a Toby jug logo, which was also designed by Frederick Rhead. HH&G were not manufacturers of pottery but agents for several large pottery companies including Wood & Sons
Please take a careful look at the photos as they form part of the description.
I am selling other items in this pattern so please take a look at my listings as I am always willing to combine postage where possible.
