AMD Athlon 1000 K7100MNR53B A ORION 512kb 1000Mhz SLOT A CPU
This CPU is an AMD Athlon 1000 SLOT-A 1000 Mhz K7100MNR53B A ORION 512kb CPU and was pulled from a working system.
This is a very rare CPU these days, The 512 Kb Cache version (ORION) is the fastest SLOT-A Athlon CPU.
Some people prefer the Thunderbird over the Orion and some the Orion over the Thunderbird.
My thoughts on this: The Orion is the last "true" SLOT-A CPU, while the Thunderbird architecture was intended to be used with the upcoming Socket A 462.
AMD ported the Thunderbird back to the SLOT-A, which one can easily see by looking at the cache modules on the PCB. The Orion has two of them, left and right from the CPU while the Thunderbird has
it´s cache integrated in the CPU die. However the two pits in the heatsink are still in place, but not used anymore since the modules are no longer on the PCB.
That is why I personally prefer the Orion over the Thunderbird since it is the last true SLOT-A while the Thunderbird SLOT-A is a backport of the Socket A 462 Thunderbird CPU.
Be sure to check your mainboard CPU support to ensure your board is able to run the CPU.
It was tested on a SLOT A mainboard and is working fine. The thermal compound has been professionally applied new, since after 22 years the original paste had dried out, like with every other SLOT A CPU these days.
Under the picture you can find the specs of this CPU.
