Three Head Stereo
Cassette Recorder (1980-82)
To carry the
Nakamichi logo, a recorder must have special qualities. To be a Nakamichi 700
performance and features must approach the Nakamichi 1000, and hence exceed
those of any other recorder on the market - and appearance must be classic.
This marriage of
beauty with technology is the essence of a Nakamichi 700. It was true of the
original 700; it is true of the 700ZXL.
In the seven years
since the first Nakamichi 700 was created, great strides have been made in
cassette-recording technology. Metal tape required a new genre of recording
heads. New play-head geometries eliminated contour effect and low-frequency
response irregularities. New tape formulations opened the door to response
beyond 20 kHz - to those who faced the challenge.
The proliferation
of quality tapes with subtle but significant differences in optimum bias,
equalization, and sensitivity made it even more important that the recorder be
adaptable to the demands of each. Advances in microprocessor technology made
automatic adaptation feasible, and new encoding techniques made true random
access to any program on tape a reality.
The development of
better noise-reduction techniques made accommodation of these devices
imperative. So the 700ZXL was created - a beautiful recorder in the classic
sense - with performance and features unmatched by any deck save the Nakamichi
1000ZXL.
Truly, the 700ZXL
is worthy to carry the Nakamichi 700 logo; a synergism of beauty and
technology, designed for the devotee of art as well as of music.
