"Seven long years I served for thee,
The bloody shirt I wrang for thee,
The glassy hill I clomb for thee,
Wilt thou not waken and turn to me?"

One of the most beautiful stories in Andrew Lang's "Blue Fairy Book" is told in a song so moving that it causes shivers up the spine. At the end, the refrain is repeated three times, followed by the spoken words, "He woke, and turned to her." The song is written for the harp but can also be played on the guitar or other instruments.

This sheet music presents the song in lead-sheet form, including words, melody, and chord symbols (not a full harp arrangement), printed in black on ivory paper with a Scottish bull illustration by Celtic artist Elly Fithian. Four pages, 8½" x 11". Level: intermediate. Since this is a lead sheet, is in the key of A, and includes suspended chords, it is not one of our easiest pieces, but it is one of our most effective!
