LMR400 Cable! Coaxial cable design choices affect physical size, frequency performance, attenuation, power handling capabilities, flexibility, strength and cost. Skinny cable has less metal to conduct your signal and causes more loss. Cheap thin badly made cable can result in even the best antenna being worse than useless. Without the proper transmission line you can lose more signal than you gain from the antenna. Most of the listings for LMR-400 cable here on eBay are not. When you read carefully you will find that the cable is not Times Microwave, Not made in the US, and not guaranteed by a free return shipping policy if it doesn't meet your needs. Poor quality cable or improper coax will cost you significant signal strength. At some frequencies, badly made or wimpy 1/8 or 1/4 inch cable can cost you up to a Db a foot! Is the cable you are looking at Described as "Compare to" "Equivalent to""Replacement for" "Same as" or even "Like" LMR-400 ? This is common with poor quality cable made in Mainland China or some other lesser known locations. 1/2 (.405) inch Cable is perfect for runs when you don't want to loose signal strength but it isn't cheap, so please choose a product that will last for 20+ years and give you the service you require. eBay is allowing sellers to List cable in the titles and description as LMR-400 when it is NOT. Don't buy without asking if a product is Genuine Times Microwave not a cheap Chinese copy. Copper prices are rising and some off shore producers are being caught using substandard alloys and less metal in the cables. We have ordered cable from others and weighed equal lengths of their and our Times Micro. 50 feet of off brand weighs a half pound less. Maybe because Tin and Aluminum weigh less than Copper... |

Connector
Specification: After trial and error we determined the proper connector for our production. RF Industries produces a high quality Silver connector that solders easily using silver solder and still manages to be affordable. Quality control has proven to be excellent and they deliver solid signals with minimal loss. Full details are here We can buy MUCH cheaper connectors here on eBay but we choose not to.

Confused About Coax Connector
Gender and Types? Click Here... We have a Photo page to explain what you need! Too much attenuation or signal loss? send it back. VSWR too high? Send it back. Please see the fine print! The Fine Print: If you cut it up you keep it. Cable should be in "like new" condition, teeth marks/burns/slices etc. are not acceptable. Please don't run it up a tower and scrape/fray it then change your mind. Run all tests while still coiled. If we have installed custom connectors we will not refund the price of the new connector we installed for you. If you have installed custom connectors we will not refund what you paid for them. LMR-400
Coaxial Cable Info
Genuine U.S. Made LMR-400 Coaxial cable should not be confused with the imitations sold calling themselves LMR400 in most eBay listings. There ARE other quality coax producers in the US other than Times Microwave. We sell a couple ourselves, but please - if you don't buy here do your homework. Certain Chinese plants make cable for a large number of resellers and as copper prices go up, the quality of the alloy used tends to go down as cheaper producers tend to substitute inferior alloy without telling or use cable with variable dielectric thickness and copper alloys less than 95% pure for poor conductivity. ========================================================== Coax
Cable Signal
losses are frequency dependent! Don't bother buying a good
antenna
if you are
running cheap cable. Losses can be
reduced by increasing
the diameter of the cable. A
cable
with twice the
diameter will have half the signal effect resistance loss.
Assuming cable quality is equal, the larger cable would halve the
dB/meter loss. In
designing a system, consider not only the loss in the cable,
but also the loss in the connectors. Cheap connectors give you as much
loss as cheap cable. On a final note, poorly made LMR600 "type" cable
can have a greater signal loss than good LMR400...
