Size Octavo [16mo] 6.5" x 4.25" Collation; Title, 7 preliminary leaves of Epistles, the Texts Folios numbered 1-244, signatures [8], ai to zviii then Ai to Hiiii Later binding of tan quarter calf with gilt titles, bands and vignettes to the spine, new endpapers, pages edges waxed yellow. Condition very good, the covers are rubbed at corners and edges, hinges cracked, calf chipped at hinges, new endpapers. The book is complete, 1 preliminary ff misbound, title dust marked, strengthened at outer margin, with 2 small old signatures to blank areas, blank part of last ff with repaired tear, second half of book close cropped at head with some loss to running titles. Other than this the pages are very clean throughout, no toning or foxing, though there are some very old, neat ms notes in the margins to a number of pages. "First ed. of the expanded version of Jean de Gagny's commentaries of the Epistles [1538], here with the addition of his commentary on the Apocalypse, including the text" (Schreiber). Each Commentary includes the full Bible Text. Contains De Gagny's Commentary on, and the full text of the Epistles, the Book of Jude and the Book of Revelation. Bible Text is printed in Roman in larger type; main text in smaller Roman type; lemmata in gothic; citations in Greek. Ref. Renouard 375. Schreiber 201. Adams B-1851. BN Paris (1).
