Zakk Wylde names his Les Pauls after New York Yankee
greats and his trademark bullseye custom painted black and antique white Gibson
illustrated here is known as ‘The Grail’. Finding success in playing lead guitar with Ozzy
Osbourne as well as in his own band, Black Label Society, Zakk made his debut
with Ozzy in 1988 on album with ‘No Rest for the Wicked’. Zakk quickly became a big name in the
guitarist community due to his recognizable sound and style. The custom paint
scheme came about when Zakk decided he needed something to distinguish himself
visually from former Ozzy guitarist Randy Rhoads. Specification includes: Two active humbuckers, an EMG 85 in the neck position and an EMG 81 in the bridge position, with a volume and tone knob for each; carved maple top; gold plated hardware
and an ebony fretboard with mother of pearl block inlays. Zakk was voted ‘Most Valuable Player’ for three
successive years in the ‘Guitar World’ (US magazine) polls. In 2005, he was also
voted ‘Best Metal Guitarist’, ‘Number 1 Shredder’ and received the ‘Metal
Hammer’ (
