The heavy paper (60 lbs.) is tested and deemed best for precision and other factors. After gluing, laminating, folding and assembly, it bears up strongly.
The load bearing main chassis is fabricated by the builder out of cardboard he or she supplies (or other material if preferred) with the outer skin and details attached to it.
Will require scissors, water based various color marking pens for some reverse coloring and edges, cutting board, white glue, cardboard for sub-support on some constructs, etc (Not included). But all color cover and graphics are included.
The Crawler Transporter was devised and used by NASA for its Apollo program, The flight to land the first men on the Moon and return them safely to the Earth. Two were produced by the Marion Power Shovel Company in 1965, which were used to transport the entire Saturn V, Launch Platform and Umbilical Tower from the Vehical Assembly Building to pads 39 A and B. In fact, while LUT #1 was recently destroyed due to ecological concerns, parts of Apollo Program launch hardware are still in use today. If you look carefully, the upper portion of the Launch Umbilical Tower can be seen amidst the Shuttle pad structures... And the Apollo Mobile Launcher Platfrom was reconfigured to facilitate Shuttle flights. But... The new Orion/Constellation manned space program will start with a fresh canvas for its new launch facilities, already in progress as the Shuttle program is retiring. Interestingly, the old, original Crawler Transporters from 1965, will be used for the new program.
