UHMW, also known as ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) is a high performance polyethylene with a much higher molecular weight than standard polyethylene. This substantially higher molecular weight accounts for the increased wear resistance, chemical inertness and low coefficient of friction. Typical applications includes wear strips, wear profiles and any other applications that require abrasion resistance.
This material is used frequently in a self lubricating bearing surface or slide type applications, it is a super, ultra wear resistant plastic material. Resistant to most common chemicals. Commonly replaces Aluminum, Acetals and Nylons. Used frequently in Food and Dairy Processing, Material Handling, Fluid Handling and Automotive. UHMW Rod is machined to make pulleys, wheels and washers. UHMW sheet is machined to produce FDA approved slip surfaces, food process fixtures and scrapers. Other brand or trade names are: Lennite®, Tivar®, Duravar®, Gardur®, Solidur®, Polyslick®, UHMV, Polyfend® and Durasurf®.
