Phase Correction on Binoculars
After the light travels through the objective lenses on a roof prism binocular, it then reflects off the surfaces of the prism. These multiple internal reflections on the prism and because of a phenomenon known as Brewster’s or the polarization angle, cause the light to become partly polarized and the light splits into two slightly out-of-phase beams.
Left uncorrected, this "phase shift" will produce an image with less contrast and a lower resolution. So to prevent this and thus increase the image quality and contrast, better quality binoculars have special multilayer phase-correction coatings applied to one of the roof surfaces which forces the split light back into phase so that they now both have essentially the same phase shift and thus there is no longer any interference to degrade the view.
Silver Mirror Coatings
Whilst the roof prism design has many advantages over the porro prism design, it does have one major problem in that one surface of the prism does not reflect 100% of the light that hits it. Therefore to get the best optical performance it is very important to raise the reflectivity of this surface and to do this, a highly reflective mirror coating is used on those surfaces.
On most lower quality optics, an aluminum mirror coating is used due to its low cost and fairly high reflectivity of 87% to 93%. A silver mirror coating is used when a higher reflectivity (reflectivity of 95% to 98%) is needed and the benefits outweigh the increase in cost.

Shipping is same day for orders paid by 10am UK time. After 10am we aim to dispatch until midday but may not manage all the time. If your order is very urgent contact us and we will try our best to get it out. Shipping days are Monday to Friday. We do not ship at weekends.

Royal Mail Tracked 48 parcels
Tracked at 3 locations, insured, sign for on delivery. Delivery is Monday-Saturday 2-3 days from date of dispatch. Covers whole of UK including Northern Ireland and Isles. Insured against loss and can be resent or refunded if not delivered after 30 working days.
Choose courier Delivery if you need it 100% for sure within a week or and/or location tracking is important.
DPD (Other 24 hour courier) Does NOT deliver on Saturday
- For UK mainland we use DPD couriers.
- For Highlands, Northern Ireland and islands we use Royal Mail Special Delivery or UPS due to very high DPD cost.
- Delivery for Northern Ireland and islands is not next day but 2-3 day.
- All services are insured and tracked.
- UK mainland Saturday delivery can be arranged for orders placed after midday Thursday but costs extra. Please contact us for details.

Otherwise standard delivery is by Royal Mail Signed For Airmail - This is insured airmail with basic tracking but no delivery time guarantee.
- Royal Mail Signed for Airmail - On arrival in your country it is passed to your national postal service for final delivery to you or your local collection point.
- Tracking will show it at least until it arrives in your country.
- At this point not all areas integrate with Royal Mail tracking so it may not be possible to location track once it arrives in your area.
- There will be proof of delivery or attempted delivery so that you can rearrange or collect from local depot.
- If it is lost or does not arrive then can be resent or refunded after 1 month.
