Has your 2010, 2011 or 2012 MacBook stopped booting? Does it power on but just has a black screen? Does it chime and show the Apple Logo but won't go any further?

Have you taken your Macbook to the Apple Store to be told you have a bad logic board and it's gonna be $600 to $1000 for a new one?  Outch!

Others on ebay are selling logic boards and repairs at much higher prices.

This listing covers those without warranty and units that are still under warranty.  See the notes below.

I have tried to put as much information as possible in this listing.  Please take the time to read it from top to bottom.   Most questions/answers can be found below.

Please know that this listing covers the diagnosis, ATTEMPTED REPAIR and return shipping.  All you need to do is purchase the listing and send me the unit with the paperwork and the work order form.   SHIPPING ADDRESS IS NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THE LISTING.  Once  i'm done and the unit test and is working fine I will let the customer know.  You will then purchase my "Successful Fix" listing which is $75.  So the total for a  working and tested repair will be $150.   If I can't fix your unit then you won't need to purchase anything else (you already paid the initial $75) and I will send your unit back.  Or if you want I can see about getting a replacement board and let you know the price if you want to do that. The return shipping is INCLUDED.  I will also insure the unit for $300.  If you want more insurance then please let me know and I'll let the customer know the extra amount.  Customer is responsible for packaging and sending me the unit.

Professional Macbook Repair

This listing is for units that power on (see below if yours doesn't) and will not boot or if you have a picture on the screen but no backlight.  If your unit doesn't power on or has power related issues such as it works but only with the battery or only on the ac adapter please email me and we can discuss it.  If you unit has charging related issues and you've tried a new battery please email me as well.

This listing is for reballing your gpu and or replacing the fuse which enables the backlight.

I also have been able to repair water damage / spills using a ultrasonic tank which cleans and removes the corrosion.  You can order thru this listing but please email me first to let me know what the unit is doing.  If your unit has suffered a spill, please unplug it immediately and remove the battery.  DO NOT POWER the unit on or try to as you can cause further damage to the logicboard.  Also if you had a spill and it's still seems to be working ok, please remove all power and check to make sure there isn't anything on the logicboard.  Spills that aren't cleaned properly will result in having corrosion on the logic board.  Over time this corrosion will eat at the chips and will cause the board to short.

***I do not repair screens.  If it is determined that the screen is at fault then I will let the customer know.  I have a local shop I do logic board repairs for which does repair screens.  This includes damaged or cracked glass as well.  They can also replace the ribbon connector which plugs onto the logic board and back of the screen.  This is sometimes needed if the unit had a liquid spill and has shorted the LVDS connector.  If a new LVDS connector is needed I will let the customer know and there will be a $20 parts charge for the part.  Also when this part shorts it will sometimes short the pin on the ribbon connector which connects the board to the screen.  In order to fix this the glass must be removed and this is a labor intensive project.  The average price for glass repair is 125-175.  This is outside the repair cost for me.  For a quote or if your unit needs this then I will let the customer know the price.  I will also let the customer know if the ribbon needs replaced as well.

Is your unit still under warranty?  Just so you know any type of LIQUID SPILL OR DAMAGE voids the warranty so DON'T take it to the Apple store.  They will only tell you your warranty has been voided and send you on your way.  If your unit is under warranty and you haven't taken it to be looked at then please email me.  I have have been able to get a new board replaced by an authorized repair center.  As long as the board shows no signs of being worked on and I'm able to clean the corrosion from it then there usually isn't a problem.  While there are no guarantees with this but like I said I have been able to get new boards.   Please also know that should the board have any burnt components or anything that would point to it being from a liquid spill, I won't be able to have it switched out thru the warranty.  In this case I would then attempt to repair the unit like a normal unit out of warranty.  Please email me with your serial number so that I can check it to make sure it's still showing the warranty.  If you've taken it to the store I can still check as sometimes they don't update it and you might still be in luck.

For video related issues this helps to provide a longer working fix for video issues.  I use leaded solder spheres to replace the non-leaded ones which is part of the problem as they crack over time.

If you want to send me just the logic board that is fine but I can't be responsible for installation issues after you've received your board back.  If you don't know what you are doing you can easily kill your logicboard.   Don't try to save a couple dollars in shipping thinking it will be cheaper just sending the board.  It's not worth the risk.  I prefer to have the whole unit anyway so I can test it and all when I'm done.  There will be NO refunds when sending just the logicboard.  So it's in your best interest just to send the whole unit.

I also buy non-working Macbooks and Macbook Pros.  If you have a unit that you'd like to sell please email me.  In addition to doing the repairs I can also trade up your unit to a newer model.   Don't want to invest anything in your non-working unit then email me and we'll see if we can't get you into a new model.  I can do data transfers from your old unit to your new one as well.  Please note there are additional cost associated with any OS / Data issues.  Email me with any questions.

My rework tools at my disposal:

  1. HONTON HT-R690 Rework Station with Split View Optical System
  2. Aoyue 883 Infrared Bottom Heater
  3. Tornado Infra Pro Lite Heater
  4. Aoyue 2702 Hot Air Rework station and Soldering Iron
  5. Microscope Inspection System with Digital Output to the Computer
  6. 4 Thermocouplers with digital temp readouts to monitor the temperature

As you can see from the list above I have spent quite a bit on the rework hardware.  Why, because you have to in order to get a successful fix.

Check out my feedback and you'll see I'm a good guy!  I take care of my customers and will do whatever I have to in order to make sure you are satisfied.

A little about me:  I have been building and repairing computers and laptops since 1989.  I have seen alot of customers bring in thier laptops after taking it to a computer shop only to be told it needs a new motherboard.  After finding out what was wrong with them, I researched and found out how to fix them.  Well, that was over 4 years ago and have been fixing them ever since.  The problem comes from the manufacturers using non-leaded solder on the gpu's.  After many cycles of heating and cooling cracks in the solder joint develop and short the unit.  This causes the unit not to boot.

I am trying to offer a complete, easy and affordable solution for my customers as I know everyone is trying to stretch their dollar these days.

I go the extra distance for my customers and pride myself in helping my customers and make sure they are happy with their purchase and experience.  I try very hard to answer any questions and return emails as quickly as possible.   I answer emails usually from 7am till around 2pm.  I sometimes will also answer them in the evening.

So, what does this service include?  I will take the Macbook apart,  remove the GPU / Video chip, remove the non-leaded solder spheres, put leaded spheres on the GPU and install it back to the board.  Or if the unit has no backlight I will install a new fuse and then go from there to test everything.  I also will clean the fan and install Arctic MX-2 thermal paste (better than Artic Silver 5) on the cpu and gpu.  This will "help" prolong the life of the chip and help it to prolong it's life.  If the GPU is found to be dead, doesn't work afterwards, then I will email the customer and let them know the replacement cost for a new one as that will usually bring it back.  There could be other shorted or burnt components and will again let the customer know if there are any additional cost before proceeding.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.  I'll gladly answer questions before, during and after the sale!  Again I try to be very quick to respond to all emails.  If for any reason your not satisfied with your purchase let me know.  I work VERY hard for my customers so please email me before leaving any kind of feedback.

I am open to shipping anywhere just keep in mind that the shipping in the ad is for conus and shipping outside the US will be additional if over the amount included in the listing.  I will let the customer know and add that to the invoice.   I will not add a handling or service charge thru shipping.  Again I want this to be as affordable as possible for you.

NOTE:  I have put extra handling time to the listing so it calculates the right amount of time from the time you order the listing, ship me the unit, do the attempted repair and have it marked as being shipped.  Due to my low cost I do sometimes get backed up.  I do my best and want to keep the prices low so please keep this in mind when placing your order.  If you need your system back QUICKLY I do offer a rush service so lease let me know and I will let the customer know the details.

Give me chance, you'll be glad you did!

Please send the entire unit so I can test everything for you.  Please make sure to put the unit in bubble-wrap, secured in a good rigid box with a couple inches around the unit to keep it from getting dinged or damaged during shipping.  I have found that usps priority mail flat rate boxes are the cheapest way to send packages.  I also reserve the right to use my own packaging when returning the units.  Using the customers package might incur additional shipping cost.  I will let the customer know before sending the unit back.  I also insure all units for $300.

I will email you the workorder form and SHIPPING address from the paypal notification that I receive.   It's a PDF form that you just need to print and fill it out and include it in the box when you go to send your unit.

Email Questions and Answers:

There will never be a time when the customer should feel the need to open a case.  Starting in August there are going to be new seller standards.  Any type of opened case counts now against the seller.  The same goes for any Neutral or Negative feedback.  This is for all sellers.  This results in many things that impact the seller.  If your wanting a update / status of your unit please email me directly.  You can respond directly from the first start of our email conversation.  Just hit the reply button on your email client and type your message.  Hit send and your good to go.  You don't need to hit the respond button in the email or go back thru ebay each time to send a email.  Just in case you didn't know this.  This is the preferred way as the emails will always have the dialog of our conversations.  I like this as I can go back and reference something should I have a question.  You can also email me directly at the email address found on the work order.  Just include your ebay ID when emailing me.  I do sometimes keep a unit longer than might have been expected.  Please know that I'm still working on it.  I can send the unit back at any time so please just let me know.  I am very busy and unless I have a question or something I don't usually send out updates.  I do when I'm done.  Please send me a email and I'll be glad to let you know what the status is and where I'm at with it.  After going thru the unit the first time and not getting it working I put it in my problem area.  I go back to these and continue working on them while still working on the incoming units.  The problem units are the ones that I will usually spend hours on.  I try my best to repair a unit and hate having to tell a customer their unit wasn't fixable.  I try to answer all emails as quickly as possible.  I believe in providing a high level of customer service from before the sale thru the end of the service.  I also am happy to answer any questions later on down the line.  Please feel free to ask me a question any time.  I am here to answer any and all questions a customer might have.  I try and answer email's from 7am-2pm eastern time.  If you send me a email after this time then I will usually respond the following morning.  I am usually out on the weekends. If you send me a email Friday afternoon thru Sunday night then I will usually respond to you first thing Monday morning.  I do sometimes answer emails over the weekend but not all the time.  I am out of the office most major holidays as well.  Again I respond as quickly as possible to emails but keep in mind the times i've listed above.

A note about feedback and dsr ratings.  If you take a minute to see the feedbacks I've received you'll see that I take care of my customers.  Not every customer leaves feedback and I have well over 5500 transactions on ebay.  I've had some customers feel the need to leave negative feedback if I wasn't able to fix their unit.  This isn't fair to me and the ebay community.  The customer paid me to preform a service which I did.  I stayed within the terms of ebay and our agreement.  If you feel that getting your unit back in a non-working condition merits you leaving negative feedback for me then I would prefer you look to someone else to perform the service.  I run a honest family business and this type of feedback is not acceptable.  I understand that you've spent money to try and have the unit repaired and I've spent my time working on it but please keep in mind that some units simply just aren't going to work.  They might have more damaged components or require more parts and time than it's worth to try to fix.  Working logic boards are available on ebay and I will be more than happy to get the customer a quote. In situations like this I will only charge the customer the actual cost of the part.  Of course I would only order something after getting their approval.  Again I take the time to do all this and therefore don't understand why someone would think leaving negative feedback is ok.  I am providing a low cost service and have time and expenses invested in the repair.  This isn't like buying a tangible product on ebay.  This is a service!  There may be issues that arise that are beyond my control.  Please keep this in mind.  Negative feedback hurts future sales.  This is true for any company selling on ebay.  Some tend to look at the companies negative feedback and base their decision solely on that.

I again thank you for your time, consideration and hope that you will choose me to perform the service.  I have a ton of repeat customers as well as many companies that utilize me time and time again.

Note:  I cannot be held responsible for any damages to your macbook or logic board.  By purchasing this listing you are agreeing to this.  While I take every precaution while working on your unit there is still the possibility that the unit might not work afterwards.  There is also the possibility that while some units may have been somewhat working, they might not work at all when done.  Anytime you work on a unit there is the possibility that further components can short causing the unit not to function at all.  This can happen with any service company so just keep that in mind.  I think though that the low cost of the attempted repair outweighs the cost of having to get a new board.  Please note that I don't do refunds with the service.  To be honest there isn't a whole lot left over after the fees and return shipping.  I do try and work with my customers though.  I understand everyone is trying to get their stuff fixed for the lowest price.  Since your buying this service then something is wrong with the unit and I believe warrants the attempted repair to begin with.

Thank you so much for choosing me and helping to support my family.
