When this safety catch becomes stiff and sticks in the open position, the hood can fail to latch closed. That is a serious safety concern!
This part mounts under the front of the hood and combines the safety hook and release handle into one unit. Once the interior lever is engaged and pops the hood up, this is the spring-loaded lever you hold to fully open the hood.
