BSA Gold Star DBD34
Released in 1945 the all alloy 348cc B32 Gold Star was given a very large list of optional components. The ZB34 of 1949 gave the 499cc B34 Gold Star a modified crankshaft and a different main bearing design followed by larger front brakes. In 1952 the 500 was given a new Bert Hopwood designed head, then the following year better handling came from a swing-arm duplex frame along with an improved gearbox. In 1954 an optional CB motor was given more and squarer cooling fins, modified engine internals and an Amal GP carburettor. The 1955 DB34 Gold Star had the crankshaft oil feed improved and was fitted with finned front brakes. Also, if the buyer specified Clubman cams and timing he also received a special silencer but the most popular model was the 500cc DBD34 which was introduced in 1956. With clip-on handlebars, finned alloy engine, polished tank, 1-1/2” bell-mouthed Amal carburettor and swept-back exhaust the DBD34 had a top speed of 110mph, enabling it to dominate the Isle of Man Clubmans TT that year before production ceased in 1963.
