1915 BOSTON RED SOX BASEBALL WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS 8 X 10 GLOSSY PHOTO.

HISTORY:  The 1915 Boston Red Sox season involved the Red Sox finishing 1st in the American League with a record of 101 wins and 50 losses. They defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in 5 games in the World Series.

Hubert Benjamin "Dutch" Leonard was an American left-handed pitcher who had an 11-year career from 1913–1921.  He played for the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers, and holds the major league modern era record for the lowest single-season ERA of all time — 0.96 in 1914. The all time record holder is Tim Keefe with a 0.86 ERA in 1880. Another pitcher called Dutch Leonard pitched for the National League around a decade later.

Ernest Grady Shore was an American right-handed pitcher in during some of their best years in the 1910s. Along with Babe Ruth, he was sold by the Baltimore Orioles to the Red Sox, and as Ruth would be after him, he was dispatched to the New York Yankees by Red Sox owner Harry Frazee, where he closed out his career. His most famous game occurred on June 23, 1917, against the Washington Senators in the first game of a doubleheader at Fenway Park. Ruth started the game, walking the first batter, Ray Morgan. Ruth then engaged in a heated argument with apparently equally short-fused home plate umpire Brick Owens. Owens tossed Ruth out of the game, and the even more enraged Ruth then slugged the umpire a glancing blow before being taken off the field; the catcher was also ejected. Shore was recruited to pitch, and came in with very few warmup pitches. With a new pitcher and catcher, runner Morgan tried to steal but was thrown out. Shore then proceeded to retire the remaining 26 Senators without allowing a baserunner, earning a 4–0 Red Sox win. For many years the game was listed in record books as a "perfect game," but officially it is scored as a no-hitter, shared (albeit unequally) by two pitchers. Following the game, Ruth paid a $100 fine, was suspended for ten games, and issued a public apology for his behavior.
