'Lent' is a TV film that was broadcast by the BBC in 1984 and starred Graham McGrath. Long forgotten, I shouldn't wonder, it is taken from a stage play concerning Paul, a 13 year old boy staying at his empty boarding school over the Easter holidays. His only companions are four adults one of whom is Matey (Harry Andrews) the school's old schoolmaster.

The plot mainly revolves around lonely Paul's friendship with the old man in whom he finds an ally against the problematic adults, especially the headmaster. 'Lent' is a gentle romp through a young boy's growing up period and set in idyllic  surroundings in 1955.

Graham McGrath plays his part very well, defiant to the headmaster but relaxed and typically boyish in the company of the understanding old man. It is all set against a background of some of Elgar's better music.

"Lent" By MICHAEL WILCOX starring Harry Andrews Constance Chapman  Fabia Drake (in her 9th Decade) , David Langton with Graham McGrath as Paul.

It is the Easter holidays at Gorse Park Preparatory School. Everyone has gone home except four elderly members of staff and young Paul Blake , the orphaned son of the former headmaster, and now the owner of the school.

The weather is beautiful, the countryside is lovely, but all is far from peaceful as the adults quarrel and Paul grows up. A great film.
