This is a very pretty Antique Silver Purse With Chain And Interior Leather Compartments.  It is of a good size and is of a lovely elegant shape with rounded sides, base and corners and it has an attractive engine turned and plain vertical lined striped pattern covering the whole of the body to the front and back.

The curved edges, the sides and base have a plain silver border.  A circular cartouche to the front  has the faint remains of a crude engraving of two letters (“RJ”).  I have to say that these looks as if they have been scratched on, rather than a professional engraving, but I stress these are very faint.

Open the purse to reveal a lovely tan leather interior consisting of different compartments, including a large compartment to one side, with 2 smaller ones on the other side and a stamp compartment.

There is a central  compartment with rims of silver with a clasp that fits over them to form a secure compartment.  There is a silver coloured chain attached to the top rim of the purse for ease of carrying.    Made from a good guage of silver with clear hallmarks

Assay Office:  BIRMINGHAM

Date:               1914/15

Makers Marks: D.Bros (Dingley Bros or Davies Brothers)

Dimensions:      4.75 inches wide, 3.5 inches tall (9.5 inches tall including the chain) and just under 1.25 inches thick at the base.  The rounded base corners are 0.75 inch thick.  It weighs 128g (not including the chain but of course includes the leather interior

Condition:   Overall it is in good condition and the clasp shuts nice and tightly.

There is a shallow dent to one of the base rounded corners and a couple of little dings in the plain sides and top rim, but these are minor and also a couple of very small pin prick size dings to the back , but again these are minor.

The leather is in very good condition with just some areas of light staining but again minor and all commensurate with age and use

Remarks:     This really is a very pretty antique silver lady’s purse and being of a good size with plenty of room for coins, notes, stamps etc.  It would finish off any evening dress and do not hide it away in a handbag but it would be very elegant draped over your wrist

Antique and vintage silver by its very nature has been previously used. Silver is a comparatively soft metal and a combination of many years use invariably leaves its mark. I do endeavour to describe all items accurately but do not expect any antique to be in "as new condition".
