Blue Train, a quartet from Nottingham, England, featuring Tony Osborne (vocals), Simon Husbands, Alan Fearn, and Paul Betts, reached the U.S. singles charts with "All I Need Is You" in 1991. Slickness is something that rock critics, as a rule, tend to be suspicious of. But slickness doesn't have to be a bad thing, and music that's slick can still have heart and be soulful. A case in point is Blue Train's The Business of Dreams -- for all its slickness and high-tech production gloss, this is a CD that has a lot of heart. If you had stripped away all of the sequencers, drum machines, and European-sounding synthesizers and forced the British pop-rockers to record the album in real time, chances are that the songs still would have held up nicely. The production, which is provided by Blue Train and George Daly, is interesting; but even without it, R&B-tinged pop/rock offerings like "Don't Ask Me Why" and "The Hardest Thing" would have been appealing and memorable. For those who spent a lot of time listening to Culture Club, Dan Hartman, or ABC in the 1980s, The Business of Dreams is worth checking out. (Review by Alex Henderson, AMG)
