MAP/PLATE 1: covers from Maiden Lane in the north to Battery Park in the south and from the East River to the Hudson River.
Each color represents the type of structure. Yellow is wood, pink is brick, blue is iron and brown is stone. The X's through the buildings indicate it is a garage. Brown indicates stone structures. A circle with a "t" indicates a fire hydrant. The map also indicates the names of the original deed holders and the double green lines indicate the original streets of New York before the grid system came in effect!
