When a trumpet player wants to get a more intense sound on his horn he can go and buy weighted valve bottoms which screw onto the bottoms of valves 1 - 2 - 3 and he's all done. We in the horn section have a problem; that's where all of our strings and/or valve linkage "stuff" is.   Our only choice is to go out and buy that large bore-big branch-nickle silver horn which will play Wagner, Strauss, and John Williams, but kiss Haydn and Mozart goodbye.

I decided to experiment on a light sounding horn.   First, I built weight which fit around the center of each rotor cap; then I bought buttons and jewels to decorate them.

The horn was my Josef Lidl / B and H triple.   To my pleasant surprise I found out from the conductor of our symphonic band that my attacks were more centered, My tone was bigger when needed, and I seemed to have better control of the instrument.

Each set of four weighs 96 grams (3 5/8 oz.).   You clean each of your rotor caps with rubbing alcohol, dry each one with a clean/lint free cloth, apply a light bead of a quality super glue (such as Rapid Fuse by Dap, available at places like Lowe's Lumber, and press the new CAP in place.   DO NOT OVER APPLY GLUE!!!!!
