MAY DAY ARANCIO

DESCRIZIONE: Utilissima lampada la cui peculiarità è l'estrema flessibilità. La forma del manico determina la flessibilità funzionale, offrendo la possibilità di agganciare, appendere o impugnare la lampada e di avvolgere il lungo cavo (4,85 m). La forma del diffusore, che offre ottima luce sia diffusa che proiettata, determina la flessibilità tipologica. May Day può infatti essere utilizzata come abatjour, lanterna, per illuminare un tavolo, come lampadario o come una torcia se impugnata. Questo "personaggio domestico" può svolgere numerosi ruoli nel tempo. A chi ne fruisce il compito di completarne il progetto.

RICONOSCIMENTI: Riconosciuta come progetto di grande qualità nel 2000 è stata inserita nella raccolta permanente del Meseum of Modern Art (MOMA) di New York. E’ stata insignita del prestigioso Premio ADI Compasso d'Oro con la seguente motivazione: "Flessibilità d'uso per le infinite e facili possibilità di collocazione in interni ed esterni. Sostenuta economicità e valida ricerca formale per l'impiego di componenti in gran parte già esistenti in produzione, che attualizza nella propria configurazione contenuti già sperimentati nelle preesistenti tipologie".

“Mayday ... Mayday ... were the famous last words before the Titanic sank. The S.O.S. call originates from the French 'm'aider' (engl. 'help me').

I designed the MAYDAY lamp to be a tool. It has a practical handle which incorportates the ON/OFF switch and two spikes to wind up the 5 meter long cable. A big hook on the end of the handle comes in helpful to install the lamp whereever needed. The big white funnel is reflector and protector for the bulb all at the same time. Its smooth polypropylen plastic gives off a warmly diffused light and takes a lot of hard bashing. MAYDAY is not designed for anywhere in specific. It rather comes in handy in all sorts of expected/unexpected situations: Taking it to the garage for work underneath the old Mercedes Benz. Taking it to the garden where it can hang from a tree. Using it on top of a ladder or lying on the floor trying to get the cat from behind the cupboard. Kids love MAYDAY inside their self-made cardboard house. I have one next to my bed for late night reading. Another one sits by the front door of my apartment ... just in case.” (Konstantin Grcic)
