What is Included:
The
instructions include step by step directions on how to attach and sew the
components of this bonnet. Color pictures are included. The smocking pattern, is
included, along with the smocking instructions and has been printed in color as
well.
The
fabric:
The
fabric is Imperial Batiste although you may choose Swiss batiste at an extra
charge. In addition, the fabric may be chosen from five (5) colors. These are:
ecru/natural, light blue, light pink, light yellow, and white. The fabric is pleated
and has a length of 44” (112 cm), the width varies, depending on the size as shown
in the table.
The lace:
The
French edging lace in this kit is 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide. You will receive no
less than 46 inches (116 cm) of either natural/ecru or white depending on your
choice. Due to availability, the French edging lace pattern, as shown in here,
is not guaranteed. A French edging lace of
the same width, length, and quality will be sent to you.
The
ribbons:
The kit
includes no less than 41 inches (103 cm) of 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide double-sided
pure silk ribbon, in ecru/natural or white as you chose. In addition there is
included no less than 27 inches (61 cm) of 1/8 inches (4 mm) wide double-sided
pure silk ribbon in ecru/natural or white as you chose.
The
threads:
The
smocking pattern calls for 14 strands, having a length of approximately 43
inches each of Finca® #16 cotton embroidery thread, 12 for the smocking and two
(2) for the back-smocking. This kit includes 28 strands, having a length of
approximately 43 inches each of Finca® #16 perle cotton embroidery thread. The
smocking thread comes in either ecru/natural or white, as you choose.
For the flowerettes,
there are 6 strands 39" (98 cm) long of DMC® pink floss included.
Pleated Area
The fabric has been pleated using
hand quilting thread in two (2) contrasting colors, orange and blue. There are 11
half rows for you to apply to the smocking pattern. These half rows will later take
the guesswork out of the smocking. There are two (2) half rows at the
beginning and two (2) half rows at the end of the pleating area for holding.
The smocking is about 1” from the brim edge so that the bonnet has a brim of
1”. In addition, the pleating will occupy approximately 2” (5 cm). The wrong
side of the fabric shows the pleating threads tails. The approximate center has
been identified with a short piece of contrasting color thread.
