David Gilmour's Guitars

Making its debut at the Bath Festival in June 1970, David had his 1969 model Black Stratocaster modified with different selector switches and a Gibson PAF humbucker in the 70’s. It’s widely regarded as his favourite guitar.

Used for his Strat Pack performance at Wembley Arena in 2004, this white Stratocaster is one of the most notable guitars in David’s collection as it carries the 0001 serial number. Although its origin continues to cause debate as it isn’t clear whether this really is the first Stratocaster or not,

as only the neck bears the 0001 serial number which could have been removed from the original 0001 guitar.

Purchased in Los Angeles during rehearsals for Pink Floyd’s The Wall tour, David played his Electra Mandolin live in concert

when performing Outside The Wall.

Acquired from Seymour Duncan around 1976 David’s 1955 Esquire already had this worn and butchered patina which led it to be

named The Workmate after the Black and Decker work bench. The additional neck pickup was made and installed by Seymour Duncan.

Features include a maple neck with black trim and an ash body finished in a rare three-colour sunburst. First seen during rehearsals in January 1977 at the Olympia Exhibition Hall, David first used it for recording his first solo album.

This 1983 ‘57 reissue Candy Apple Red Stratocaster is one of a number of Stratocasters purchased by David prior to his About Face tour in 1984 as he didn’t want to risk taking his more valuable old instruments on the road.

David had active EMG pickups fitted prior to performing at Live Aid in 1985 and used it on Pink Floyd’s Momentary Lapse of Reason tour in 1987, then on The Division Bell tour in 1994. It also featured on David’s On An Island tour and solo album.
