This is a fine example of a highly collectible vintage/antique brass backed tenon saw made in Sheffield. The manufacturers name is difficult to make out on the brass spine but it appears to be marked Askham Bros, Sheffield. The markings have nearly worn away due to age but are still visible as can be seen in the photographs. It appears to be a saw from circa 1870’s to 1880’s. It has the initials A.H stamped on the pistol grip style handle, which will be the initials of the owner of the saw as craftsmen if this era took great pride in their tools & as such they would put their names to them. This particular style of saw with the very comfortable pistol grip handle are highly sought after. This particular example is in very good condition for it’s age, although the grip is very slightly wobbly this can easily be rectified by tightening the two locking screws on the wooden grip. The blade is still nice & sharp & measures approximately 10”. Although this saw is generally considered a collectors item it is still perfectly fine to use. Please see the photos for more information on the condition of the saw & please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions about this item. Due to the size of the item I am unfortunately unable to offer free shipping as I generally do with other, smaller items. However, I will keep the shipping cost as low as possible. This is a very reluctant sale, but as I don’t work with wood (I’m a welder/fabricator) and also have limited space in my workshop I feel this saw should go to someone who will appreciate the saw for what it is; a fine example of British engineering from yesteryear! Happy bidding!

Kindest regards,

Robbie
