Ludwig Van Beethoven (1770 - 1827)
Beethoven's compositions were published as early as age thirteen. Hearing him play in 1787, Mozart professed, "This man will leave his mark on the world." When Beethoven settled in Vienna at age twenty two, he earned fame for his exceptional talent as a piano player and for the ability to compose as well as improvise during performance. It is Beethoven's "Symphony No.5" that is so deeply characterized by his traditional classicism and richly romantic inheritance.

After 1800, Beethoven began to lose his hearing, and gradually became deaf by the time he was fifty, when he could not even hear his own music. Even then, Beethoven was able to maintain a sense of music within. His innate abilities and an acute "inner" musical ear allowed for continued creative endeavors that contributed to his rich legacy of classical music.

Musique d'Or is an out-of-print series of full length classical music CD's that was marketed mainly in Europe in the 80's, but was also distributed in America by The Moss Music Group, and sold at retail by the now closed Rose Records chain. The recordings are bright, crisp digital recordings made mainly by leading European artists and orchestras, and packaged in environmentally friendly cardboard sleeves which was uncommon at the time. They've become hard to find, and harder to find in new condition! Don't pass this by - Get it now!
