INSTRUCTION TO BLEED A RADIATOR:

Bleeding a radiator is in most cases a simple diy job.
If your radiators are hot at the bottom and cold at the top it probably means that they need "bleeding".
The coldness just means that there is no water in that part of the radiator - instead it has Air which needs bleeding off.
To bleed the radiator you need to open the small valve normally found on the side or back of the top of your radiator.
This is what the key is designed to be used for.
As you release air from the radiators you will hear a hissing sound which is the air being released.
As air is released it is replaced by water in the system which will need topping up - if you have a combi boiler this will need to be filled - normally at the filling loop near the boiler - see the boiler instructions for this.
If you have a header tank ensure that it is full and that the inlet is working.
During bleeding you should ensure that your boiler/pump is turned off.

WHAT TO WATCH:

You should also beware that as the air is released some dirty water may be expelled at the radiator valve and this can stain carpets etc
Be careful when unscrewing the valve - they are often made from soft metal and can be damaged fairly easily - do not remove the valve completely as you may not be able to replace it quickly.
