DESCRIPTION:

Birthday Party is a dark pink or what is called a "red" similar to Ellen Bosanquet but with a different parentage.  We have recorded as many as 14 flowers on scapes as tall as 34".  We grow over 1000 different crinum and this is one of the most reliable.  It is fragrant with a perfume scent and forms several offsets each year.  The foliage is more spreading.  It is somewhat fertile but does not make a good seed parent.  Bulbs will grow to about 4" in diameter after about 8 years.

BACKGROUND:

It is a hybrid of crinum scabrum and crinum "Bradley Giant".  This is a very rare crinum and not commonly available.  The flower is a trumpet shape and it blooms sequentially with flowers opening over a period of about a week.

GROWING CONDITIONS:

This is a tender, but easy to grow bulb that should do well along the Gulf Coast.  It tolerates a wide range of soils but needs warmer temperatures (probably OK down into the high teens), at least to zone 8 (planted deeper and mulched).  Zone 9 or above should require no special care. Blooms come in mid-summer and continue, on and off, into the fall.  They should do best planted in the ground in full sun or partial shade, and they will also make excellent container plants. They can survive nicely out of the ground for very extended periods if allowed to dry.

DESCRIPTION OF ITEM FOR BID:

You are bidding on a jumbo, blooming-size bulb at least 6 years old and about 3+" in diameter which should bloom within 1 year.  Crinum do not like to be moved, so it can take a year just to "settle in."  Bulbs will be freshly dug, shipped bare root and with leaves March-November.  In the winter months the leaves may be absent.

WE SIZE OUR BULBS APPROXIMATELY BY AGE AS FOLLOWS: A few varieties can take 6 years or more to bloom.

Jumbo bulb – has bloomed at least 2 years, close to the maximum size for that particular plant (6+ years old)

Large bulb - should bloom this year or next (3+ years old, close to, or at blooming size)

Medium bulb - should bloom in 1-2 years (at least 2 years old)

Small bulb - should bloom 2-4 years (current year or 1-2 year old offset)

Seedling bulb - started from seed (usually in its first year of growth unless otherwise stated)
