MAORI PADDLE (HOE)
Presenting an exceptionally fine vintage Maori dance paddle expertly hand carved from one solid piece of heavy weight timber.
This exquisite piece features a finely detailed Tiki face to the front face of the blade, complete with large protruding tongue, diamond and spiraling patterning and inlaid paua shell eyes.
The carving is exceptionally fine and beautifully detailed.
A series of carved diagonal lines adorn the front of the handle, with an inlaid paua shell contained within circular bands adorning the butt. Three simple angular lines adorn the reverse side of the blade.
This fabulous Maori paddle is presented in excellent vintage condition with no breaks, cracks or repairs. The timber has developed a lovely mellow patina that only time can bring. The paua discs are secure, free from cracks and exhibit some nice age. This piece has been very well cared for and presents spectacularly.
This impressive paddle measures approx 460mms in length and 80mms in width.
This magnificent piece would make a fine addition to any Kiwiana, Maori, Pacific Islands, Oceanic, Tiki or Tribal art collection!
