Bob Marley’s Gibson Les Paul Special

Reputedly one of Bob Marley’s favourite electric guitars, this Gibson Les Paul Special was probably acquired around 1972/73 in London, UK and already had the ABR-1 Tune-o-matic Bridge installed and white binding added to the headstock.

In 1979 Bob asked Roger Mayer to carry out some unique changes that wouldn’t affect its sound. The tuners were replaced and the guitar was completely re-wired without touching the original P-90 pickups. Roger also installed the custom brushed aluminium pickguard and replaced the switch plate with one in the shape of an American football.

The illustration of this famous guitar is original and has been produced by George Morgan following extensive research.
