YOU WILL RECEIVE YOUR PLANT IN A SOIL-LESS MEDIA COMPOSED MAINLY OF PEAT, PERLITE AND VERMICULITE, IN A BIODEGRADABLE CUP WHICH CAN BE
PLANTED DIRECTLY INTO YOUR PLANTER POT. THE ROOTS WILL GROW THROUGH THE CUP WHICH WILL BREAK DOWN INTO THE SOIL AS THE PLANT
MATURES. YOU MAY ALSO REMOVE THE PLANT FROM THE CUP BUT IF YOU CHOOSE THIS OPTION YOU MUST DO SO VERY CAREFULLY TO AVOID DISTURBING
THE ROOTS WHICH COULD LEAD TO SHOCKING THE PLANT.
PASSION FRUIT PLANTS ARE VERY HARDY AND CAN WITHSTAND REASONABLE HANDLING
WITHOUT KILLING THE PLANT. BEFORE YOU TRANSPLANT, SOAK THE BIODEGRADABLE POT  IN  GOOD QUALITY WATER (NO CHLORINATED TAP WATER
PLEASE) TO SATURATE THE ROOTS BEFORE TRANSPLANTING INTO YOUR NATIVE SOIL OR YOUR CONTAINER WITH POTTING SOIL. MY RECOMMENDATION IS
TO START OFF YOUR PLANT IN A 3 GALLON POT WITH A GOOD QUALITY WELL DRAINING POTTING SOIL TO ALLOW THE PLANT TO DEVELOP A STRONG ROOT
SYSTEM AND GROW. WHEN YOUR PLANT REACHES AT LEAST 2 TO 3 FEET TALL YOU MAY CAREFULLY PLACE  A TRELLIS IN THE CONTAINER (OPTIONAL) TO
TRAIN THE PLANT AS IT BECOMES TALLER.
ONCE THE PLANT REACHES 3 TO 4 FEET TALL YOU CAN THEN TRANSPLANT EITHER IN A LARGER 5 TO 7 GALLON CONTAINER
OR INTO THE GROUND SOMEWHERE THAT THE PLANT CAN GET AT LEAST 6 HOURS OF PART TO FULL SUN.
THE SOIL SHOULD BE KEPT MOIST TO WET BUT DO NOT FLOOD OR PLACE IN STANDING WATER FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME TO AVOID POTENTIAL ROOT ROT.
PASSION FRUIT CAN LIVE FROM 3 TO 5 YEARS WHEN PROPERLY CARED FOR. SOME HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO LIVE AS LONG AS 5 TO 7 YEARS PROVIDING YOU
PRUNE BACK EXCESS WOODY VINES AND FOLIAGE SO THAT SUN CAN PENETRATE INTO THE PLANT AS IT ADVANCES IT'S GROWTH.
THIS IS A PLANT THAT WILL PROVIDE YOU  WITH YEAR AFTER YEAR OF DELICIOUS FRUIT!!

Passiflora edulis flavicarpa is also known as Lilikoi (it's Hawaiian name) which although is not a distinct species from the more commonly known purple passion fruit, the yellow variety is a slightly larger fruit that boasts a beautiful yellow skin with a sweet but slightly more tart tasting pulp which becomes sweeter as the fruit sits and becomes more ripe. Other characteristics of the Lilikoi are similar to the purple passion fruit variety. In general, the yellow passion fruit varieties are larger, grow faster, and produce more fruit than the purple varieties. This variety is a vigorously climbing vine that can grow well over 20 to 30 feet in a single year. Flowering typically appears between April and November but under ideal conditions will bear flowers year round. Bee or hand pollination will allow the bearing of fruit within 60 to 80 days after flower appearance depending on your location and climatic conditions. Lilikoi loves full sun but will tolerate partial shade. A fence, trellis or even a tree (preferably a not fruit bearing tree) can become a support for this very aggressive growing vine whose long tendrils will easily take over your garden if not pruned back as it advances it's rapid growth. I grow one of my vines on my mango tree so that I can pick 2 fruits from the same tree!! It is not unusual for the vine to last from 4 to 6 years before dying back. Frequent watering especially in dry weather, as well as soil with good drainage is essential. The nearly round or ovoid fruit is one and a half to 3 inches in width, has a tough rind that is smooth and waxy with a yellow hue similar to a yellow guava or yellow squash. The cavity of the fruit is filled with an extremely aromatic membranous sac filled with orange-colored pulp and juice with as many as 250 small edible crunchy dark brown or black pitted seeds. The scent is somewhat perfume-like, with a flavor that is appealing, musky, exotic, guava-like, moderately sweet with a tart finish that is without doubt unlike any fruit you have ever had the pleasure of sampling.
Passion fruits grow in USDA plant hardiness zones 9b to 11 where they have been known to handle temperatures as low as 32 degrees F, but I don't recommend this unless you are a seasoned/experienced gardener.  Most passion fruit will not usually survive sustained temperatures below 40 degrees F as they are very susceptible to frost. These are plants that mature quickly, gracing your garden with a majestic 3 lobed leaf and heavy foliage. Passion Fruit can be grown from seeds, grafted or cloned.  Passion fruit usually require from 1 to 1 1/2 years to go from seed to fruit. The yellow passion fruit variety generally flowers from spring until late fall with a break in early summer so that mature fruit appears at intervals between early summer and winter. Pollination can be done by hand but generally butterflies and carpenter bees are known to be more efficient pollinators than regular honey bees.  There are over 400 different varieties of Passion Flower plants and depending on the variety you are growing, the blooms are some of the most exotic, aromatic and beautiful display of colors you have ever seen. Passion Flower vines make an excellent trailing vine for a harbor or porch so that the flowers can be admired and enjoyed throughout the day. The flower is said to be symbolic and tells the story of the Passion of Christ. The leaves of the passion fruit have been known to have a calming effect when boiled into a tea and drank before bedtime. Passion Fruit extract can also be purchased in health food stores and is generally considered safe to use as a calming sleep aid. Please consult your physician to ensure that this is a safe option for you should you choose to use the plant for this purpose.  I want you to be enjoy this plant as much as I do so I welcome any questions you might have about growing this beautiful gift from nature!!
