FROM THE COLLECTION OF FORREST J ACKERMAN.

LOT #2 of 3 related letters. Two are from the same correspondent, and one is to that correspondent. A true rarity. A letter written in ESPERANTO! Vintage FORREST ACKERMAN
letter to ALTON H. ROGERS dated October 9,1935. One page, 8 1/2 x 11, fine condition. Hand corrections on it are by Forry as this was his composed first draft.

Forrest Ackerman was fluent in the artificial language Esperanto, and used it in much of his correspondence.

Ackerman always drafted letters before retyping them, and this is one of the longer draft responses to a fellow Esperantist.
Ackerman’s return address of Holivudo — Kalifo [Hollywood, California] is one of the easier place names! He greets Alton as “Editor Rogers” and thanks him for his thoughts about the newsletter.

He mentions that even though Esperanto is a universal language there can still be some problems. He says an English friend wrote a letter and wants his opinion.

He includes the problematic conversation:
Diner to waiter: “I would like coffee with cream.”
Waiter: “I’m sorry, sir, we don’t have cream. Would you like your coffee without milk?”
***
The letter concludes with another bit of humor: "The abbreviation, Sat-ano, always looks like the devil! (If you “catch” my joke…)”

Good-bye!
F. J. Ack
