The Sony TR-714 has the distinction of being the world's first multi-band shirtpocket transistor radio. The radio is a spectacular feat of miniaturization for its time. It is also a very attractive little set, featuring a wonderful painted grill, a tuning dial of reverse painted plastic, knobs set in the top right corner and an enormous telescoping SW antenna. The radio came in forest green, grey and a burnt red color. This radio is featured in a number of classic websites, including: http://www.flickr.com/photos/transistor_radios/2139591050/, http://www.transistor.org/collection/sony/sony24.html, and http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/sony_tr_714_tr714.html.

This is a good working example of this iconic little tranie. It receives stations on the AM band with superb volume and clarity. Cosmetically the radio is above average. The speaker grill is excellent, and the reverse painted dial is shiny and scratch free.  There is one barely visible tight hairline on one bottom corner and the other bottom corner has either a scratch or a hairline but I can't get any movement so probably a scratch. The plastic does have scratches and some mild wear from sliding in and out of the leather case. The antenna is intact and unbroken. The case is stiff and somewhat shrunken, and the 9v battery clip is a replacement.
