Bought it personally in Zululand South Africa, this year on my African visit.
Zululand (yes that is the large area of South Africa where the Zulu live) is a remote area in the far North East part of South Africa that borders with Mozambique and the Indian Ocean. Few tourists make it to this area. World class Scuba diving is the main attraction (I had the pleasure of working as a Scuba Instructor there). Back to the "remote", shipping (from Africa) is a main concern with these Alice bands and other Zulu made items.
These items are a statement to women's art, women who live in a harsh environment. Universal art that will grace any home regardless of ethnic background. weaving is a dying art as this is a "rural" craft.
