The Messerschmitt Me 262 was said to be the most sophisticated fighter plane at the end of the Second World War. Extremely fast, maneuverable and outstanding the hostile fighters of their time. There were albeit some disadvantages, mostly the high vastage of petrol and the short period of application. With additional tanks beneath the bow, some more flight time could be won, but the tanks also increased air resistance. So Messerschmitt thought of arranging additional tanks with high capacity in a better position. In this way two versions evolved: a Me 262 with slipper tanks on both steal engines, and a Me 262 with prolonged hull with the two slipper tanks. The design of the tanks was mainly derived from the tanks of the Fw 190 as from the so called “Dackelbäuche” (“daxhound bellies”). There´s no evidence yet that the planes were built at last.
The Messerschmitt Me 262 "Langrumpf" (Long fuselage) had a second cockpit section added, which dictated a slight backwards allocation of the wings. Additionally, the "slippertanks" were incorporated on top of the jet engines.
An actual build of this variation of the Me 262 didn't take place, since the Messerschmitt engineers were already busy with more advanced versions of jet engine fighters.
