The Catalyst V1 is constructed with quality proven Teijin D2 canopy material and Teijin Dacron providing a crisp feel and a strong kite. This year we took a completely new approach towards this design to create a fun filled kite for new comers to progress to becoming solid intermediate riders. The Catalyst V1 has a unique Leading Edge arc and sweep shape, combined with a simple pulley-less bridle offering you freedom and flexibility on the water. If you manage to drop your kite in the water the re-launch of the Catalyst V1 is incredibly simple and intuitive due to the unique shape of the leading edge. By turning the bar or using the Re-launch Balls on the leader lines, the kite will easily roll over into the re-launch position ready to take off from the water. The Catalyst V1 is constructed with quality proven Teijin D2 canopy material and Teijin Dacron providing a crisp feel and a strong kite.

The Catalyst is a 3-strut medium aspect kite that comes with a high flow Boston valve that requires the larger inflation nozzle, a single setting fixed front bridle and three steering settings on the wingtips. The Catalyst is the progression/freeride option within the Ozone family of kites and testers praised the Catalyst for its easy upwind ability, and predictable and easy boosting. While it doesn’t have the same explosive lift you might find in the Edge or the active steering of the Reo, the Catalyst is no slouch when it comes to user-friendly performance that works across all genres of kiteboarding. Testers liked its slightly heavier bar pressure that gave you a good feel for kite placement and commented on the Catalyst’s acceleration and steering speed which makes it very stable, reliable and comfortable kite for the progressing kiter or casual freerider.

The Catalyst comes with the Contact Water Control System, a fixed length bar 45cm that features a single center-line safety depower, PU covered center throw line, low-V, center lines that end in a loop rather than a knot, stainless steel cam cleat for tuning power, with a bungee built into the tuning slack and a magnet for the toggle to keep it from tangling in depowered situations. The length of throw is non-adjustable, and the outside lines are non-tunable, but the bar ends are soft with integrated floats. The push away quick release features a below the bar hand swivel and a release shield, and while the release is clean it is a two handed process to reset the quick release on the water. Testers gave the CWC control bar high marks for comfort with its slightly bigger diameter and plush grip, easy and always functional power tuning system and solid mix of useful features in a nice, medium weight control bar.
