Make a reasonable offer and this historical lithophane which is 8 inches tall and 6 1/4 inches wide could be yours.

Zachary Taylor became our twelfth president in 1849. After only 16 months in office, he acquired a stomach problem which killed him in only five days.  He died on July 9, 1850. His vice-president, Millard Fillmore, assumed the office.

As a result of his actions during the second Seminole War he was given the nickname, "Old Rough and Ready", but as President he was historically insignificant.

I am not sure the exact year that this lithophane was made, but the metal frame it is in has a date of April 20, 1870 on it. I am sure the lithophane was made much earlier because the high quality of this piece does not match the cheap frame.

As you can see from the pictures, when the light source is behind the piece, it is quite beautiful and would make a nice addition to any high quality Presidential collection. This could easily be one-of-a-kind.

I acquired this piece from the important Richards Collection which was auctioned off in Rhode Island in 1994.

Please note in the pictures that there is a tiny chip in the top center of this piece. That is the way it was originally purchased by Mr. Richards.

If you collect Presidential memorabilia you will love this piece. Put it on your mantel or display it in your office or corporate headquarters  behind some glass with proper lighting... Wow!
