From the history of the 148th Caspian Infantry Regiment .

After the Persian campaign of Peter I, in the newly annexed regions of Transcaucasia, several new regiments were formed to perform garrison service, one of which was named Rashtinsky (from the name of the city of Rasht - on the territory of modern Iran), under Anna Ioannovna the regiment was renamed Caspian, but was soon disbanded . The history of the new Caspian regiment began almost a century and a half later.
