Painted by Sandra Chang-Adair, this lovely mermaid leads her handsome
prince under water among beautiful lily pads. In my un Hans Christen
Anderson version of the little mermaid fable, she survives and lives
happily ever after with the prince. She is wearing a gorgeous bejeweled
ruby bra (which she made and it rivals any Victoria Secret million
dollar bras LOL).
I was inspired by the talented Maureen O'Hara
when I created the heroine. She is a red-haired actress from the 1940's
and1950's and played many fiery damsels. I remember her from A Miracle
on 34th Street, the old Hunchback in Notre Dame and Parent Trap. She
played a musketeer in At Sword's Point and a pirate in Against All Flags
with Errol Flynn. I love Errol and I based the hero on him. He is
characterized by his pencil thin mustache and reckless, devil-may care
attitude. He is best known for his swashbuckling movies, the original
Robin Hood, Captain Blood, and Sea Hawk.
My husband commented
that they must be very small since the lily pads were so gigantic in
comparison, but I claimed artistic license since it is a fantasy world
to begin with.
