Available is an ORIGINAL 1979 Watercolor titled "Beetle in Del Mar" on paper, ATTRIBUTED to San Diego artist Piedad M. Pettigrew. UNSIGNED Measures approximately 18" x 24".

This Southern California watercolor of Rural North Coastal San Diego County is in AMAZING condition. There is a lesser work on the reverse side.

Piedad's work in the 1970s and 1980s really captures a moment in time before San Diego made the tradition from a small navy town surrounded by lazy beach communities to a big city with sprawling suburbs, when the unique Western vistas started to disappear under miles and miles of the tract housing that are now the defining feature of the landscape.

This painting (like many of Piedad's pieces) is unsigned, but was acquired with a portfolio of her art that does contain signed works. This is a fine example of her style and is consistent with other works in the portfolio. I've included examples of her (several) signatures, at the end of the pictures, from other paintings in the portfolio

I don't know much about the artist, other than Piedad was born around 1901, studied art under Anette Paquet (a prominent local listed artist in San Diego) while she was an art instructor at San Diego Community College in the 1970s and continued painting watercolors through at least 1989.

Your painting will ship rolled. It will be packed securely, and shipped safely via USPS so that it arrives to you in the condition pictured.
