Sometimes vintage hardware can be maintained for years, but the EL Panel backlight starts to dim and fades so much that it becomes unreadable.
It may have been decades since the product was manufactured so getting spares can be tricky; luckily we have a whole range of replacement EL Backlights available
These size EL Foils tended to be used to backlight info screens like Datatronic II in Massey Ferguson tractors
These EL Backlights will have to be soldered into place, they are very robust and if it is not quite the right size you can trim it down to shape with scissors
EL Panels have been used as display backlights in consumer and professional electronic equipment for more than 30 years
They have proved to be very reliable but if the unit is still being used after more than 10,000 hours of lit display then these will start to fade
As these units are often decades old, the manufacturer has often discontinued the product
Users then discover that replacement screens for their beloved hardware are often expensive or impossible to find
Instead of replacing the entire screen, an inexpensive EL Panel back light replacement can inserted instead. There will have to be a some disassembly and soldering involved but there are usually youtube videos for the procedure for most makes and models
