EL Panels have been used as display backlights in consumer and professional electronic equipment for more than 30 years.
They have proved to be very reliable but if the unit is still being used after more than 10,000 hours of lit display they will start to fade.
As these units are often decades old, the manufacturer has often discontinued the product.
Users then discover that replacement screens for their beloved hardware are often expensive or impossible to find.
Instead of replacing the entire screen, an inexpensive replacement EL Panel Backlight can installed. There will be some disassembly and soldering involved but there are usually youtube videos for the procedure for most makes and models.
These EL Backlights will need to be soldered into place; they are very robust and if it is not quite the right size you can cut, with very sharp scissors and not a scalpel blade, to the size you require, ensuring that any 'cut' edges are re-sealed with glue before installing..
