The Ropes holster was developed at the San Antonio Arsenal and was produced there on a very limited basis. It is a modified Civil War holster with a large belt loop to fit Mills cartridge belts, and with nine cartridge loops under the flap for extra ammunition. This type holster saw considerable use by National Guard units during the Spanish-American War and Phillipine Insurrection.  It will fit a large variety of firearms, including Colt SAA .45's and double action .38 revolvers as adopted by the Army in 1892.  It will not fit large frame double action 45 revolvers, such as the M1909 or M1917.

PLEASE NOTE:  The loops on this holster are made to fit .38 S&W ammo, but will accomodate .45 Long Colt ammo, requiring some patience to stretch them out.  Best procedure is to wet the loops, work bullets in slowly and carefully, and leave them in until the leather dries, then lubricate inside of loops. The old gunfighters combination of graphite and neat's foot oil works best.

Replica firearm and bullets are for illustration only and are not included in the offering.
