ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The German military announced on Wednesday that it had suspended all training operations in Iraq and the autonomous Kurdistan Region due to tensions arising from the current Iran crisis, Germany’s DPA news agency reported. The move affects not only the European nation's mission in cooperation with federal Iraqi security forces but also those involving Kurdish Peshmerga forces, Secretary-General of the Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga Ministry Jabar Yawar told Kurdistan 24.  Additionally, Yawar mentioned that US troops and military advisers in Iraq had also suspended their training operations for an unknown period, but that has not yet been confirmed by American officials. Earlier on Wednesday, the US State Department ordered the departure of non-emergency US government employees from its embassy in Baghdad and consulate-general in Erbil, as well as the suspension of normal visa services. “The U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in Iraq,” a statement read.   Germany is one of the key members of the US-led coalition against the Islamic State. Over the past few years, the country has provided extensive military and humanitarian aid to the Kurdistan Region, with its foreign and defense ministers visiting Erbil on multiple occasions. In total, the German military has 160 troops on the ground in Iraq, with 60 of them stationed in the Taji Camp training members of the Iraqi army, while the other 100 are based in Erbil and provide military training to Peshmerga forces. In April, a newly constructed and now fully-staffed Peshmerga Hospital in Erbil opened, the result of an initiative funded by Germany at a cost of about $5 million. Earlier in December, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced it had contributed an additional €22 million (roughly $25 million) to a UN program that finances “fast-track initiatives” in Iraq in areas liberated from the Islamic State, bringing the ministry’s total support of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to €209.9 million (nearly $235 million). Elsewhere, Dutch national broadcaster NOS reported that the Dutch mission in Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region, has been suspended due to a security threat.  A Dutch defense spokesperson, however, did not specify what the threat was. The decision was taken by an Italian commander of the international coalition, according to reports. Currently, Italians lead the Kurdistan Training Coordination Center (KTCC) that is made up of instructors from nine countries: Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Hungary, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Sweden. Moreover, 50 Dutch soldiers are training Kurdish Peshmerga forces in Camp Stephan in the Kurdistan Region capital of Erbil for the war against the Islamic State. The Defense spokesperson said there is no decision yet to pull Dutch troops from Iraq. Editing by John J. Catherine

Urban warfare is combat conducted in urban areas such as towns and cities. Urban combat is very different from combat in the open at both the operational and tactical level. Complicating factors in urban warfare include the presence of civilians and the complexity of the urban terrain. Urban combat operations may be conducted in order to capitalize on the strategic or tactical advantages with which possession or control of a particular urban area gives or to deny these advantages to the enemy. Fighting in urban areas negates the advantages that one side may have over the other in armour, heavy artillery, or air support. Ambushes laid down by small groups of soldiers with handheld anti-tank weapons can effectively destroy entire columns of modern armour (as in the First Battle of Grozny), while artillery and air support can be severely reduced if the 'superior' party wants to limit civilian casualties as much as possible, but the defending party does not (or even uses civilians as human shields). Some civilians may be difficult to distinguish from combatants such as armed militias and gangs, and particularly individuals who are simply trying to protect their homes from attackers. Tactics are complicated by a three-dimensional environment, limited fields of view and fire because of buildings, enhanced concealment and cover for defenders, below-ground infrastructure, and the ease of placement of booby traps and snipers..

An American-led intervention in Iraq started on 15 June 2014, when President Barack Obama ordered US forces to be dispatched to the region, in response to offensives in Iraq conducted by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). American troops went, at the invitation of the Iraqi Government, to assess Iraqi forces and the threat posed by ISIL. In early August 2014, ISIL attacked Kurdish-held territory in northern Iraq, and captured three towns in northern Iraq, close to the autonomous region Iraqi Kurdistan.[103] Consequently, the US started supplying the Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga forces with weapons on 5 August. On 7 August, the US also started humanitarian aid air droppings of food, water, and medicine for the civilians fleeing ISIL in the Sinjar Mountains. On the next day, 8 August, the US began airstrikes against ISIL positions in Iraq. Since then, nine countries, allied with the US in some coalition, have also executed airstrikes on ISIL in Iraq, more or less in concert with ground warfare of Kurdish and/or Iraqi government forces against ISIL. There have also been sporadic clashes between ISIL fighters, and US and Canadian troops, several thousand of whom are acting in advisory and combat roles with Iraqi and Kurdish forces.[105][106] By April 2015, ISIL had lost 25–30% of the maximum territory they had gained in Iraq in December 2014, to Iraqi and American-led Coalition forces, leaving them in possession of around 15,000 square miles of Iraq.

It's the old system to number the ODA and ODB (in application during the beginning of OEF and OIF) :

The first number refer to Group - Ex.: ODA 525
"0" refers to 10 Special Forces Group (example : ODA 074,...).
"1" refers to 1st Special Forces Group (example : ODA 172,...)
"3" refers to 3rd Special Forces Group (example : ODA 373,...)
"5" refers to 5th Special forces Group (examples : ODA 525, ODA 555,...)
"7" refers to 7th Special Forces Group (example : ODA 774,...)

- second is a combination between Battalion & Company (see below) - Ex. : ODA 525

////////Alpha ////////// Bravo /////////// Charlie [= Company]
1 = 1st Battalion / 2 = 1st Battalion / 3 =1st Battalion
4 =2nd Battalion / 5 =2 nd Battalion / 6 =2nd Battalion
7 = 3rd Battalion / 8 = 3rd Battalion / 9=3rd Battalion

- third number is Team - Ex. : ODA 525

0 = ODB
1 = team 1 (ODA)
2 = team 2 (ODA)
3 = team 3 (ODA)
4 = team 4 (halo capabilities - ODA)
5 = team 5 (scuba/combat diver capabilites - ODA).

And at this point, you can also differentiate ODA and ODB :

ODA = Operational Detachment Alpha / A-team. It's the basic SF unit.

ODB (= Operational Detachment Beta /B Detachment / B team / SFOD-B ) : it's SF company headquarters. For ODB, the last number is always "0"

ODC = provides command and control, and staff planning and supervision for SF battalion operations and administration.[107]
