ALSACE ANGEL :
In the 16th century the custom of the German Christchild as the gift bringer became widely adopted in Europe. It started in Alsace, a border province, and moved to France.
In Alsace the gift bringer was called le petit Jesus and was depicted in various forms, including a small boy child in a garland trimmed cart drawn by a lamb. The cart was laden with gifts to be given to good children. Eventually the figure of the Christchild was replaced by child angels.
When most of Europe was adopting the American Santa Claus as thier Christmas gift giver, the French illustrators began to elaborate on the angel theme. In advertisements and story books, it was a common sight to see the French Angel putting presents down the chimney rather than accept the American Santa.

This item is NEW NEVER DISPLAYED, NOS only opened for inspection and photographs. All items that originally came with Alsace Angel Royale Duncan Statue is what you will receive. We found these in there original shipping cartons unopened, 3 came per carton that is reason we have 3 available.

This auction is for 1 Alsace Angel of the Duncan Royale Santa set. Aproximate hieght 8". The high resolution pictures are photos of one of the 3 pieces that came in manufacturers shipping box you will receive one of these so it could be the one in picture or one of the other ones in the container, all are in perfect condition. Being cold cast porcelain and hand painted there may be slight variations.

Alsace Angel in perfect condition, These are all Limited Edition of 6000. This piece is fragile and I am sure in last 25 years many have been lost, damaged or broken leaving the actual number in circulation much smaller than 6000, now NOS basically new that number in circulation I would say is a extremely small number. The pricing is based on current prices being received for individual pieces in the current marketing place and other resources and collectables guides that we have researched.
