This unusual tube carrier was intended for carrying sheet music
for a musician back at the turn of the 20th Century.
Dimensions: 15” long and
about 2.5” in diameter.
The center portion is made of a ‘basketweave celluloid’ with
canvas/velvet style handle. (Underneath is a heavy cardboard tube)
Both ends are fashioned of velvet, with a decorative high-nap
scroll design.
One of the ends pulls off to reveal the interior space, where the
rolled piece of sheet music fits.
As the pictures reveal, there are pieces of the celluloid that are
missing or torn, near the handle.
And the interior edges of the cardboard tube are somewhat frayed
from use.
I have never seen another one like it. Could not find anything that compares.
