The Rumour X speaker cable from Chord is based on the original Rumour which was Chord's attempt at creating a speaker cable following on from the Myth and Legend copper and polyethylene flat cables in single and bi-wire configuration. This is the latest version of the Rumour which has been carefully developed to deliver an improvement of sound quality in a wide range of systems.

To create the Rumour X cable, Chord investigated silver-plated conductor speaker cables combined with PTFE insulation and twisted pair conductor configurations instead of the regular heavy gauge parallel conductors that were the standard for speaker cables. The R&D team at Chord discovered that by twisting the conductors together, they could percieve the noise floor of the system improve and and they reached an ideal twist ratio which this cable was designed around.

In 1996 when the Rumour was launched, it was one of the smallest speaker cables available (16 AWG). However, the Rumour X sounded much bigger than it looked, carrying detail and dynamics especially well and well as being more coherent.

Previous versions of Rumour speaker cables used PTFE insulation (often referred to as Teflon) and until the arrival of Taylon, this was our “go to” material. However, the cost of Taylon prevents use in all ranges, a suitable family of insulation materials known as XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene) was found to be a ideal alternative. Following listening tests the XLPE was shown to be clearly better than the PTFE in Rumour speaker cable – now known as Rumour X.

We ship all our orders from depot in the heart of Birmingham.
We provide FREE next day delivery on all of our UK orders, so long as you complete your order before 2pm (Monday - Thursday, Excluding Bank holidays).  Orders placed on a Friday morning will be delivered on the Monday. Orders placed after 2pm Friday will be dispatched on the following Monday.

  • For our UK orders we use DPD Couriers (Next Day Delivery) who provide a personal tracking numbers with a one-hour delivery slot on the day of delivery. For smaller UK orders we use Royal Mail (1st Class).
  • For our international orders we employ eBays Global Shipping Programme (GSP). Which is highly recommended for its costs and efficiency. All the international orders are sent to a GSP depot here in the UK, before onward international shipping. You will get emails updating you on the progress of your order throughout the delivery process

We do not allow local pick-up for eBay orders, but if this is necessary please contact us prior to making your purchase and we can make arrangements for you.

For combined shipping you will need to add the items to your basket before paying for them, and then we will send them out together. For international orders eBay GSP calculates the shipping cost, which normally charges extra for additional items based on weight.

  • We will only pay the return delivery costs if the item was delivered wrong or it is faulty out of the box.

For Returns:

  • The returns process must be started within 30 days of your initial order.
  • We ask all items that are returned to us be wrapped in outer material (brown paper, plastic, clear wrap, black wrap or anything similar) complete with their original packaging.
  • Any items that are damaged or have parts and accessories missing will be subject to a re-stocking fee or in some cases even rejected.
  • Please ensure you contact us before returning the item to obtain a returns reference.
  • You must also ensure you include your name, eBay ID, and the reason for the return; it will speed up the refund process.
  • All of the refunds are processed with the same payment method as the original purchase.
