This is a three-valve single horn, pitched in F. It is an inexpensive,
extremely lightweight instrument, ideal for young players who are new to the
French horn.
The natural step up from this instrument would be a four-valve
“compensating horn”, which most players would move to after a year or two of
playing. This would allow them to play in both B flat and F, rather than just a
single key.
Product Description
Serial no.: 140853
The instrument is supplied in the original Arnolds & Sons hard case. One of
the zip fasteners is stiff at the corner of the case, which makes opening the
case slightly more difficult. Otherwise, the case is in full working order and
very good cosmetic condition.
Please note that no mouthpiece is included in the listing; however, we usually
stock a wide selection of suitable mouthpieces should you wish to purchase one.

Condition Description
This horn has been fully tested and serviced by our brass technician to ensure
complete function and the best possible sound.
The mechanical condition is excellent:
The valves have been lapped (polished to a smooth finish) and cleaned, and
their action is consistently smooth and quiet.
The tuning slides have been cleaned and polished to give a neat surface
finish with only a few cosmetic marks. They fit tightly, move smoothly and
offer good resistance.
The instrument has been ultrasonically cleaned, which effectively removes any
internal dirt or mineral deposits to make sure the air flows properly through
the pipework.
The cosmetic condition is very good:
There is also a single small ding on the leadpipe, which is the only
dent on the instrument (see photo 8).
There are some cosmetic marks in the lacquer on the leadpipe, next to
the two stays which brace it against the rest of the instrument (see photos 9
and 10).
There is a small patch of worn lacquer deep inside of the bell flare
(see photo 5), where the player’s hand rests while playing.
There are a few small marks on the keys, and a few other tiny scratches.
The horn is otherwise in very good cosmetic condition, and all of the cosmetic
wear described here is only visible on close inspection.
Returns/Warranty
If on initial inspection you are disappointed with the item in any way, you may
return it and receive a full refund.
We will offer the instrument with a mechanical warranty for 24 months, but only
a limited cosmetic warranty. The cosmetic warranty is limited to significant
issues.
