The lip that the book rests on, the shelf that sticks out, is 0.85" tall. This stand can hold a book up to 20" in weight. When the stand is raised to its lowest position, the height in the back (from table to top) is 4.25". There are total of 4 adjustable heights so you can hold the book in different angles.
